Mt. Hood Kiwanis Camp is a week-long summer camp for children, teens and adults with disabilities. We offer children and adults with disabilities an opportunity to leave behind their routine lives and taste the freedom of the outdoors - to go beyond limits that they, and others, have set for them. We provide a caring, welcoming environment where campers are challenged to do their best, yet their special and personal needs are met. For counselors who work with campers one-on-one, it's often a life-changing experience. For campers, it's "a little piece of heaven."

Parents and caregivers must provide transportation to the camp, so that counselors, supervisors and health staff may meet with the camper and their primary caregiver individually.

Camp sessions from June through August are divided by age groups

Winter/Weekend Retreats for Teens and Adults
Throughout the year, the Mt. Hood Kiwanis Camp offers weekend retreats. Camp Kiwanis holds a Winter Teen Retreat over Martin Luther King, Jr. weekend and Adult Retreats in the spring and fall. The weekend retreats offer many activities including arts and crafts, fishing, canoeing, hiking and snowshoeing (weather permitting). Different from the summer camp, the retreats have a 1:3 staff-to-camper ratio. Caregivers are requested to accompany campers if 1:1 assistance or help with personal care is needed.

The Winter Teen Retreat is typically for youth ages 14-20. The Adult Retreats are tailored to campers 20 years and older.

Week-long Camp
When a camper registers for camp they have four options -- staying at the Main Camp, canoeing at Trillium Lake, trip and travel. All four options include a dance and evening campfire.

The canoeing and trip and travel options were designed with more independent campers in mind. In order to register for canoeing or trip and travel, the camper must have previously attended Main Camp at least one summer.

There will be a $25 per day charge for caregivers attending camp with their campers ($125 for the week). There is a $75 cancellation fee.

Main Camp

Activities include the challenge/ropes course, horseback riding, fishing, hiking, arts and crafts, swimming, and a dance and campfire program at Main Camp, as well as canoeing, swimming and fishing at Trillium Lake.

Each camper has one counselor. Campers sleep in lodges or cabins in groups of 4 or 8 campers. Meals are served in the dining lodge. The camp, including the challenge course and horse corral, is wheelchair accessible. Fee $750.

Canoeing at Trillium Lake

Canoeing campers spend the week at pristine Trillium Lake Campground, eight miles east of the Main Camp. Activities include canoeing, fishing, swimming, hiking, huckleberry picking and crafts. Campers stay in tents, cooking at the site, traveling to Main Camp for the Wednesday evening dance, Thursday evening campfire and horseback riding.

This program is for active, independent campers. There is one counselor for every two campers. Campers must have attended Main Camp at least one year before applying for Canoeing Camp. Fee $750.

Trip and Travel Camp

Trip and Travel campers enjoy day-long excursions as well as regular activities at Main Camp. Campers experience additional challenges on the ropes course, spend a day river-rafting on the Deschutes, tour Wildwood Recreation Area, and go to Skibowl Adventure Park.

There is one counselor for every two campers. Outings are active and rigorous. Campers must have attended Main Camp at least one year before applying for Trip and Travel camp. Due to the added activities, the fee is $800.
Walk, Roll or Stroll
