Happy Trails Riding Center, located in West Linn, Oregon, is an Oregon registered nonprofit dedicated to enhancing the lives of all people through horsemanship.
Happy Trails Riding Center offers group and private horse riding lessons for special needs and able-bodied people, as well as special events and birthday parties. Instructor, Nicole Tangvald, is a CHA certified riding instructor. She has worked on multiple special needs therapeutic riding programs.
Parents of children and physical therapists are welcome to participate (not required).
Leaders and side walkers assist riders until the rider is ready to ride independently.
Classes are held in an outdoor arena, weather permitting.
Riders must wear long pants and closed toe shoes and weigh less than 200 lbs. Helmets are provided.
Volunteers are always needed – we will train.

We offer classes for people of all abilities including people with special needs. Riding relaxes and strengthens muscles and improves body tone, posture, balance, joint mobility and coordination. When the rider balances with the horses motion, it helps to strengthen the trunk and spine. The motion of the horse simulates natural walking for the riders who can not walk independently. Content of lessons challenge riders cognitively as well as physically. The people and horses at Happy Trails Riding Center create a positive experience. Riders will learn skills to care for horses.
