Disability Rights Oregon is an independent non-profit organization which provides legal advocacy services for people with disabilities anywhere in Oregon. Disability Rights Oregon is designated under federal law as the protection and advocacy system for Oregon, but it is not a part of the state or federal government. Disability Rights Oregon has attorneys and advocates who assist people with disabilities.

Disability Rights Oregon offers free legal assistance and other advocacy services to individuals who are considered to have physical or mental disabilities. Disability Rights Oregon works only on legal problems which relate directly to the disability. Resources and voter assistance information is also available so individuals with disabilities can vote.

 

Anyone can call OAC to get information about the rights of people with disabilities. Direct case advocacy is provided only to people with disabilities for problems related to the disability. In

Products/Services

Information and Referral
Disability Rights Oregon staff gives advice and information about the rights of people with disabilities. This includes advice about civil rights, special education, health care, rights to public and private services, guardianship and rights in care facilities.
Legal advocacy
DRO Provides consultation and advocacy assistance, that includes legal, administrative, and other remedies on behalf of people with disabilities who experience disability related discrimination, including protection under ADA and IDEA.
Client Assistance Program
CAP is a program of Disability Rights Oregon it is funded under the federal Rehabilitation Act (the Act) to advise and inform individuals of all services and benefits available to them through programs authorized under the Act including vocational rehabilitation, independent living, supported employment and other similar rehabilitation services The program also works to assist and advocate for individuals in their relationships with programs providing services under the Act, Inform Oregonians with disabilities of the services and benefits available to them under the Act and under Title I of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990.
Passage to Independence Project (PIP): Oregon's Work Incentive & Planning Assistance Project
Oregon's Work Incentive & Planning Assistance Project helps individuals with disabilities plan to go to work.
Traumatic Brain Injury Project (TBI)
Protection & Advocacy Traumatic Brain Injury Project (PATBI) is a program for people who have had a brain injury, from a blow to the head, a shaking injury, or another type of external cause.The mission of PATBI is to provide advocacy and
representation for persons with TBI in improving access to health benefits, and increasing the quality, availability,effectiveness of programs designed to improve the health and quality of life for people with traumatic brain injury.
Protection and Advocacy for Beneficiaries of Social Security
PABSS is for Oregonians with disabilities who receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI) or Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and who have a disability-related barrier to employment that may be solved with civil legal advice or advocacy. SSDAC recipients may also be eligible for PABSS help. What kind of cases can PABSS handle? dispute resolution with employment related service providers including Oregon Vocational Rehabilitation Services and any type of private or non-profit Employment Network as well as benefits planning offices.; workplace disability-related discrimination or; reasonable accommodation request, return to work issues, acquisition of services, benefits or accommodations directly related to a specific return to work effort; (For example: an accommodation request for a licensing certificate exam or application, or the coordination of available services or benefits necessary to obtain a device or accommodation for an active identifiable job offer or current job placement.) More simply; if legal assistance will allow you to work, PABSS may be able to help you.
