We've Remodeled!

As with any big remodeling job, we still have a few things to put away. We just could not wait any longer to invite you in to see our new home!  The Compass staff and our web guru have been working hard for almost a year to test, design, and transfer all the data from our old site. They are doing a great job.

Not only does the site look different, it works differently, too.  Try it out and you’ll see what I mean.

Gone are the days of pages and pages of items for every search. The Community Resource Search has just under 2000 current resources, and a new way of searching for information. The result? A more targeted list of suggestions for your search. In addition, we have added a star rating system. If there is a resource you have used, please take the time to give it a rating. This is your opportunity to share information to others who use the site.

The other Compass tools you depend on are here too: the Personal Services Provider Search (PSP), the Inclusive Child Care Search (ICC), and the Region 1 DD Training Co-Op.

New to the site is a more robust means of sharing information. For example, under the communications tab, you will find this blog, our newsletter, and a list of exhibitor guides from resource fairs and events that happen in the community. If you can’t make it to the event, we will have the information here for you. We’re thinking of all sorts of ways to help you find what you’re looking for.

Another exciting new feature is a focus on training and online learning. Although we have not created new online offerings yet, we are gathering those we find. In the future, we plan to offer e-learning experiences designed with you in mind.  The more tools you have, the more we can impact the quality of lives of people with disabilities, their families, and the communities in which we live.

None of this would be possible without the work of others who started the project.  We are thankful for the dedication of those who began this work, including Sharon Lewis, Charlotte Duncan, and Elaine Piper-Vardas . We are also indebted to the Compass partners who have provided insight, direction, and feedback over the years.  Last, we are extremely grateful to Community Vision, Inc., for their support and for offering us a place to grow.

Disability Compass is your site. Your tool. We depend on your input, opinions, and interest to guide us to creating tools that are truly of use to you. Take a look around. Let us know what you think.

Welcome to our new home.

Warmly,

Joan Guthrie Medlen, RD, LD
Director
